One thing that has always been a part of my life is music. I wasn't raised around music. My parents did not play an instrument, but my brother did begin to play the trumpet when he was in the fifth grade, which was the year that schools allowed students to be involved in the band program. In the fourth grade the school allows students to be part of the orchestra. That is when music started for me. I chose the cello to play. I didn't want a squeeky violin or viola. The cello had a richer, dark sound to it.
The next year I chose to play the flute. The reason I chose this was because I heard it played it in church while I was growing up. I loved the sound. This was an instrument I've always been interested in and wanted to learn how to play.
I took lessons during school and summer, did solos or duets, and participated in the orchestra and band. After middle school I quit orchestra. I didn't want to do it in high school because I knew they weren't very good and didn't want to spend my time doing that. I'm a very lazy person. Since then I've regretted that decision. I continued with the flute and joined the marching band and concert band my freshman year. After that I only stayed with the concert band. This was due to being in volleyball and the Pacesetters, our dance team. I wouldn't have time in the fall to go to those band competitions on the weekends. This was okay with me though. I still got my amount of music in for me. To me I needed that music in my life. It was a way of expressing myself, my emotions. Different moods can be played out for music. Music is beautiful..
